Position Overview: Survey Instrument Man

As a Survey Instrument Man at Alliance Land Surveyors, you will work closely with our experienced field crew, handling survey instruments, assisting in data collection, and learning the ins and outs of Party Chief work. Through hands-on experience and guidance, you will gain the skills needed to transition into a leadership role as a Party Chief.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate survey instruments with precision and accuracy.
  • Maintain and ensure readiness of survey equipment for fieldwork.
  • Collaborate with the team to deliver high-quality survey results.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Survey Instrument Man or in a similar survey field role.
  • Proficiency with survey instruments, including total stations, GPS, and levels.
  • Strong interest in advancing to a Party Chief role and leading survey projects.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.

What types of jobs will I be performing?

Instrument men typically start with straightforward jobs like lot surveys, form surveys, as-builts, and TABC surveys. As you gain experience, or if you already have advanced knowledge, you may be tasked with more complex surveys.

Will I be provided with equipment and supplies?

Yes, we provide the necessary equipment for the job. However, you will need to purchase your own supplies, which we will reimburse.

How and when will I be paid?

Pay is issued every two weeks. You will need to track your hours and submit an invoice using the documentation we provide. Payment is typically a flat percentage of the contract, but hourly arrangements can be made in specific situations.

Will I be working near my home?

We aim to assign jobs close to your location whenever possible. However, some longer-distance driving may be required. You are never expected to stay overnight, as we only accept jobs within a reasonable radius.

Do you provide a vehicle for the job?

Most crews are required to use their own vehicles, but accommodations can sometimes be made based on specific situations.

What are the requirements for most surveys?

Most surveys require locating property pins or corner monumentation, mapping general features, and measuring any buildings, homes, sheds, or other structures on the property.

Can I work weekends or take on jobs part-time?

Yes, we welcome weekend-only work or those looking to take on a few jobs outside of their regular employment.

Do you provide insurance?

We do not provide insurance, but affordable options can be found through the HealthCare.gov Marketplace.
